Overview
The Gianfranco Giammaria Memorial Society (GGMS) was created in March of 2008 in memory of
Gianfranco Giammaria to raise awareness of Sudden Death Arrhythmia Syndrome (SADS) and to raise funds to provide grants for the purchase and installation of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) in recreational and community facilities in British Columbia as well as for the related training of facility staff on the use of the AEDs.
We provide, promote, encourage and organize events including
hockey games, tournaments and activities in British Columbia
which:
-
Raise
awareness and monies to assist us in the pursuit of our
purposes
-
Assist
in identifying arenas, stadiums, recreation centers and
other athletic and community facilities in British
Columbia in need of defibrillators.
To date, the Society has provided grants to public and private facilities in Vancouver and Burnaby for the purchase of 15 AEDs and 8 training programs. In the summer of 2008, an AED purchased through a grant provided by GGMS was employed in saving the life of a facility patron. Our goal for the 2009’s fundraising event is to provide grants for the purchase of 25 AEDs and related training to public and private facilities in the Lower Mainland.
